Grammy Award-winning artist Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid, recently shared insights in his newly released course, Music Business 101, regarding Banky W’s reliance on him during their time together at EME.

Wizkid gained prominence in the Nigerian music industry after signing with EME, a record label owned by popular Nigerian singer Banky W and music executive Tunde Demuren.

Wizkid explained that Banky W, as the founder of the now defunct EME, couldn’t do without him due to his exceptional talent. This made it difficult for Banky W to overlook Wizkid’s contributions.

Expanding on this point, Wizkid emphasized that when an artist is musically gifted, they naturally attract the support and affiliation of others because people gravitate towards success.

In terms of advice for aspiring artists, Wizkid asserted that record labels alone cannot propel their careers as much as they might desire. Instead, artists must first invest significant effort and dedication into their craft.

In his words; “No record label can push you as much as you want.like you have to actually put in the work, everyone supports everything that is successful, everyone wants to affiliate with anything that’s successful.

“So if you’re too good, they will never neglect you or they won’t want to work on your project

they will want to invest this is business.so if you’re doing a label proud , they will invest

in it. if you’re not you don’t expect them to just be throwing money out there.”
