"We are not here for revenge" – Pep Guardiola on his trip to Madrid
“We are not here for revenge”- Pep Guardiola on his trip to Madrid |
Tonight is the crunch tie we’ve all been waiting for. Real Madrid play host to Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final first leg. After his side arrived in Madrid on Monday afternoon, City coach Pep Guardiola faced the world’s press ahead of the game.
In a press conference which was dominated by questions on last year’s match-up between the two, the Spanish manager remained focused on this year, saying
“we’re not here for revenge just an opportunity. One day we will win it”.
It remains to be seen if City’s men can mentally put last year’s crestfalling result behind them for Tuesday’s game, though. For Guardiola, that won’t be the deciding factor, with the second leg in Machester being the key to getting to the final:
“Everything will be decided in Manchester”.
The City boss certainly did not seem phased by the prospect of being put out by the same side in consecutive years in the tournament the club has been so desperate to win, saying
“we arrive here with encouragement… We congratulated Real and now we are back”.
He ended the press conference by hailing Madrid, saying
“there’s much more than Vinicius”, before finishing by admitting that “I don’t know what will happen this time”
ahead of one of the side’s biggest games this season.
