Only a select few European teams are eligible for this distinction, including renowned clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

Manchester City will not have the privilege of adorning a Champions League winners’ badge on their jersey next season, despite their triumphant performance on Saturday.

The English powerhouse shocked Inter Milan at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, securing the esteemed Champions League trophy for the first time in their history.

Having recently clinched the Premier League title by defeating Arsenal and triumphed over their rivals, Manchester United, at Wembley to claim the FA Cup, City entered the final match in exceptional form.

According to the Evening Standard, Rodri’s well-executed goal was the sole difference between City and Inter in Istanbul, propelling the English giants to European glory.

City denied the UCL badge

Nonetheless, The Mirror reports that Pep Guardiola’s team will be deprived of the opportunity to display the Champions League winners’ badge on their kit next season.

The publication explains that the UEFA Badge of Honour is not awarded solely for winning the continent’s top competition once.

To qualify for this distinction, a club must secure a European title either five times or three consecutive times.

Consequently, only a select few clubs in Europe meet the criteria for the badge.

Barcelona, Liverpool, Ajax, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, and Real Madrid are among the clubs eligible, while Sevilla, renowned for their success in the Europa League, also qualify.
