“I’m sitting on top of you” – Singer Burnaboy claps back at Davido following his controversial “New Cat” statement
Grammy Award winner Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, professionally known as Burnaboy, has responded to his colleague Davido’s controversial “New Cat” statement.
Recently, Davido, also known as David Adeleke, who is the boss of DMW, sparked online controversies by claiming that Burnaboy is a newcomer in the Afrobeats scene, putting him on the same level as Mayorkun, Asake, Rema, Fireboy, and others.
During an interview, Davido, the hitmaker behind “Unavailable,” discussed the global recognition of Afrobeats and asserted that he and Wizkid paved the way for the genre’s international success. He expressed his satisfaction with the rising success of new artists like Burnaboy, Rema, Asake, and others.
Davido’s “New Cat” comment generated mixed reactions. While some disagreed with him, others pointed to a video where Burnaboy appeared as a vixen in one of Davido’s songs.
However, Burnaboy, who recently made history as the first African artist to perform at a UEFA Champions League final, took a jab at the singer. He shared a photo of himself with football legends Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, and others, and stated that he is currently on top of Davido and other self-proclaimed big cats in the music industry.
Burnaboy wrote; “Sittin’ On Top Of The World 🚀.”
